Prof Bakari Salim Lembariti

Professor Lembariti is from Tanzania but gained his doctorate from Semmelweis Medical University, Budapest (Hungary) in 1978 and then an MSc at the University of Dar es Salaam in 1983 alongside a Diploma in Periodontics at the University of Groningen in 1983. In 1985 he received another Diploma in POHC at the University of Oslo (Norway). He completed his PhD at the University of Dar es Salaam in 1993. After four years as Deputy Vice Chancellor PFA, of Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam, Lembariti has gone back to teaching, researching and consulting at the School of Dentistry, MUHAS. Before these roles he was Head Dentistry of Dentistry, University of Dar es Salaam for six years, Dean of Dentistry for six years, Registrar for MUCHS for five years as well as an external examiner for UoN and Makerere. Lembariti has also been a member of the Joint Working Group FDI and WHO on Oral Health for six years as well as being a board member of the International Academy of Periodontology. Professor Lembariti has published in local and international journals, chapters in books, technical reports in WHO Publications on oral health and in particular in the field of Periodontology/Periodontics. He has presented scientific papers at local and international conferences in the field of oral health and education. His research interests are in the area of Periodontology/Periodontics, more specifically concerning the natural history of periodontal disease, oral hygiene, and traditional herbs in relation to periodontal diseases.
