Dr Daniel J. Kane

Dr. Kane graduated from Brown University and received his DMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.  Following specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry, he completed a Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the John F. Kennedy Institute for Handicapped Children, now called the Kennedy-Kreiger Institute in Baltimore, MD focusing on children and adolescents with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a candidate for a Masters of Art degree in Educational Administration and Leadership, Gladys L. Benerd School of Education, University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA. Currently, as the NYU Lutheran AEPD Program Director, Dr. Kane oversees 13 post-doctoral pediatric dental education sites across the United States.  His faculty appointments include Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, Brown University School of Medicine and Assistant Clinical Professor, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health and the NYU College of Dentistry. During his tenure as Dental Director, St. Joseph Health Center (SJHC), Providence, RI, he established the relationship with the interdisciplinary Craniofacial Team at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and later expanded SJHC services to include nasoalveolar molding (NAM), a pre-surgical intervention for infants born with cleft lip/palate. Dr. Kane has served as the RI State Leader for the Head Start Dental Home Initiative working to insure that every Head Start child is linked to a dental home.  In cooperation with Children’s Hospital Boston, he led RI efforts to develop a disease management protocol for children with early childhood caries.  In addition, he is the AAPD Public Policy Advocate for Rhode Island and serves as a consultant in pediatric dentistry for the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
