Dr Angella Doris Tahani

Dr Tahani is a Christian, married and has children. She would love to see one of her children become a dentist in the future. She graduated from King George VI Secondary School, Honiara, Solomon Islands in 1987 with a Solomon Island School Certificate. In 1992 she received her Diploma in Dental Therapy from the Fiji School of Medicine (FSM), Fiji, receiving the Overall Highest Award in the Diploma of Dental Therapy Program, FSM, Fiji. And in 2006 she was awarded a Bachelor Degree in Dental Surgery, University of the South Pacific (USP), Fiji. She worked as a dental therapist for six years before being promoted to Senior Dental Therapist in the Children’s Dental Clinic, Dental Department, from 1999 -2004. In 1999 she developed Dental Health Education Materials for Teachers and Nurses in the Solomon Islands, while she studied at Adelaide University, Australia. In 2009 she was made Resident Dental Officer, Dental Department, National Referral Hospital (NRH), Ministry of Health & Medical Services, (MHMS), Solomon Islands. In January 2011 Angella was made Principal Dental Officer, Dental Division, Honiara City Council (HCC), Solomon Islands. She dislikes the fact that dental health is not prioritized equal to general health in the Solomon Islands. She would love to see the dental service recognised as a component of public health and not just a curative service. Her hobbies are playing volleyball, basketball and netball.
