Richard Law Award Winners 2016

The Richard Law Award 2016 for dental students in India; a prize of (Rs 25000) through an essay competition, for the 4th successive year in 2016.The competition had two categories: post-graduate and under-graduate. 

In the post-graduate category, Shraddha Mahesh Natekar of Dr GD Pol Foundation’s YMT Dental College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai won the award, whereas in the under-graduate category, Embeti Srikanth, Narayana Dental College and Hospital, Chinthareddy, Palem Nellore, won the award. 

A special Judges’ Choice Certificate was given to Viswa Chaitanya, SIBAR Institute of Dental Sciences, Tenali, in the PG category. The second runner-up certificate went to Krutika Gedam of Dr GD Pol Foundation’s YMT Dental College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai.

In the under-graduate category, Arti Gharpure of Dr GD Pol Foundation’s YMT Dental College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai was chosen as the first runner-up.

The essays were assessed by Dr Sreenivasan V (Professor and Head in Oral Medicine and Radiology, Saraswati Dhanwantari Dental College, Parbhani) and Dr Rahul Rao (Professor in Conservative Dentistry, Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College, Navi Mumbai) in the post-graduate category, and Dr Amar Katre (Reader in Pediatric Dentistry, YMT Dental College, Navi Mumbai) and Dr Ramchandra Kabir (Reader in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Index Dental College and Hospital, Indore) in the undergraduate category. 

Shraddha Mahesh Natekar, the award winner of the post-graduate category, pictured opposite, stated: "It was an enriching experience.  My topic was research in academic institutes and practice based research; a relatively untouched topic in the purveiw of the postgraduate curriculum. It was interesting to explore this topic. The award was an unexpected delight. I'm really glad and honoured to receive this award."

Embeti Srikanth, pictured opposite, the award winner of the under-graduate category wrote that of all the awards he has received so far, this was the best that he won and it would not only make him famous but also help him pay the fees for his post-graduate studies.

Lastly, on receiving this Special Judges Choice Award, Viswa Chaitanya Chandu stated that it made him feel very happy and more committed to his academics.
