Dr Bella Dave from London was the recipient of our 2012 'Richard Law Award' for her research paper entitled: "Why do GDPs fail to recognise oral cancer? The argument for an Oral Cancer Checklist".

Bella's paper investigates this challenging subject by way of the following things:

1. Suggesting that diagnostic delay of oral cancer is potentially modifiable. Considers reasons for this in general practice along with the problems faced by GDPs.

2. Discussing the changing epidemiology of oral cancer.

3. Stressing that traditional risk factors for oral cancer are also changing.

4. Proposing that the use of an oral cancer checklist in conjunction with ongoing CPD.
