Maya Barzani Award

Maya Barzani is the daughter of his Excellency Nechirvan Barzani, former Prime Minister of Iraq. The award, in honour of Maya, is to help raise standards of dental care in Kurdistan and Iraq.

In honour of Maya Barzani the Global Child Dental Fund is offering the following three awards:

  • Two awards up to £2,000 each to dental students who plan to take an international elective to Kurdistan.
  • An award of up to £2,000 to a dentist in Kurdistan to attend a national dental conference. The award can be used to pay for travel, subsistence and conference registration fees.

Who Should Apply

The Maya Barzani award is open to all dental students around the world.  In addition any dentist working in Kurdistan may apply for an award to travel to a national dental conference.

Please note that the award is judged by a panel of assessors on behalf of the Global Child Dental Fund.

How to Apply

All applicants must draft a proposal no more than four hundred words providing:

  • an outline of their proposed visit
  • the form that their project will take
  • an estimate of the budget they would require, including a summary breakdown of how it would be utilized.

We ask all dentists in Kurdistan who wish to apply to write a maximum of four hundred words outlining in brief the following:

  • who they are and any relevant positions and personal achievements
  • why they wish to attend the conference
  • to what purpose they would best utilize their conference training

Demand for the Maya Barzani award is high, and so we advise applicants to be as specific and concise as possible. Detail why it is you are interested in your proposed area of study. We are looking for applicants who exhibit high levels of enthusiasm, initiative, and organization.

Please note dental students must have the support of their dental school.

Successful applicants will be informed by 1 February 2012.
