Overview

GCDHT Cambodia is a member’s Taskforce comprising partners who are major stakeholders in Cambodia for effecting improvements in child dental health, including the Ministry of Health, dental schools and several NGOs.

Background

Established in 2010, GCDHT_Cambodia was the 13th national Taskforce to join the GCDHT movement. The taskforce was urgently needed because the prevalence and severity of caries in the primary teeth of Cambodian children are among the highest in the world

To date two meetings have taken place, a Beacon Centre has been established to coordinate efforts to improve child oral health and both of Cambodia’s dental schools are now formal partners with the Taskforce.

GCDHT_Cambodia has a 3-year mission

To initiate a “Call to Action” in caries management and prevention in Cambodia.
To ensure all major dental and health stakeholders respond to the mission and develop strategic partnerships with the Taskforce
To develop a national dental sponsorship programme for Cambodian orphans and children living in poverty in.

Operations

Day-to-day operational management is undertaken at the Beacon Center, located at the office of one of the NGO partners. The Beacon Centre implements the wishes of the Taskforce, working with the partners to implement programmes. It also distributes toothbrushes, toothpaste and fluoride varnish.
