Smiles & Hopes - Iraq

We hope to launch Smiles & Hopes Iraq in the coming year in Kurdistan, North Iraq.

During the 1980s and 1990s many of the Kurdish provinces were evacuated during a guerrilla war resulting in many deaths and villages being destroyed. Travel for both nationals and internationals was restricted for many years, resulting in dental practice and procedures being further behind the rest of the world.

In May 2011 Professor Raman Bedi was appointed Special Advisor to the Kurdistan Regional Government (Iraq) in relation to the reconstruction of dental services. The Smiles & Hopes Iraq programme will be an outworking of this, aimed at the most disadvantaged children.
